Fish
The use of ultrasound in the aquaculture industry plays an important role in the management of farms.
Ultrasound is a non-invasive way of sexing of fish that in turn allows optimum sex ratios to be maintained. It is often difficult, even to the trained eye to select male and female breeding stock at the correct time and ultrasound plays an important role here. With reproductive organ development, ultrasound can be used to help identify the optimum time for the collection of ova and semen to help effective fertilization.
Ultrasound can also be used to determine quality of tissue elasticity and density, which are important to the eating quality and subsequently value of fish.
