VetPD: Advanced Mare Reproduction – Webinar Series & Practical

July 6, 2020 - July 14, 2020

Advanced Mare Repro Webinars & Practical

Live Webinars 6th July – 14th July, 2020

As a result of the current Covid-19 restrictions all lectures of this course will be given via webinars over the coming weeks.  All webinars (incl. Q&A) will be recorded and made available for on-demand viewing.  The 7-8 hours of practical sessions of both course days will be condensed to 1-day of wetlabs held at Agnes Banks Equine Clinic on Sunday 16th August 2020.

Please note that the practical sessions for this course are already fully booked.

This course (now featuring Placentitis and Foetal Sexing) has been developed for equine veterinarians and mixed animal practitioners with a working knowledge in the field of equine gynaecology (mare reproduction) and provides a critical update on topics of relevance to mare reproduction practice.   Whereas a previous VetPD Advanced Mare Reproduction courses in Australia focussed on artificial breeding, the emphasis on this course will shift to more general equine stud practice and highlight the hot topics of placentitis and foetal sexing.

The highly-illustrated lectures will be held in English.  Lecture topics will include cycling problems; management of mares for artificial insemination (chilled and frozen); use of Doppler ultrasound in gynaecology; investigating barren and subfertile mares; placentitis (thinking beyond CUPT); hysteroscopy;  management of fluid producing mares; twin management; foetal sexing (at 2 different windows of opportunity); uterine sampling techniques; and prevention of early pregnancy failure.

The 7 hours of practical sessions will give attendees plenty of opportunity to put theory into practice in small groups (2 – 4 attendees / ultrasound machine) and to discuss all aspects of gynaecology with the specialists.  Each attendee will be rotating through the following practical stations:

  • Ultrasound examination (incl. doppler)  (live mare examinations, with use of video for discussion of foetal blood supply)
  • Hysteroscopy  (live mare examinations)
  • Placentitis examination (including trans rectal and trans abdominal techniques) – video cases to replace rectal examination but live mares may be used for transabdominal examination
  • Uterine Sampling Techniques – Swabbing, flushing, low volume lavage, cytology, biopsies
  • Foetal Sexing (trans rectal) – video and group discussion will be used in this session
  • Foetal Sexing (trans abdominal)

Webinar Series Registration Process:  Once you have registered, you will receive an invitation to the live webinars in due course.  The webinar series will be recorded and after the session has taken place, you will receive an access code for on-demand viewing for a limited period of time.  The course fee includes extensive electronic course notes and a certificate of attendance.
