Sheep scanning technology hasn't changed much in 40 years. That's about to change.
If you've spent any time scanning sheep, you know the drill: dust, mud, wet wool, bright sun glaring off the screen and probes that have seen a few too many seasons. The tools of the trade have been reliable workhorses for decades, but even the best gear needs an update.
That's where the EVO III and the purpose-built eC4 sheep probe comes in. It's not a reinvention of sheep scanning — it's the natural evolution. Clearer images. Faster, easier scans. Less guesswork. Better for your business.
A Machine Built on 40 Years of Agricultural Knowledge
E.I. Medical isn't new to this space — they've been specialising in agricultural ultrasound solutions for over 40 years. But the EVO III's real point of difference for local producers and scanning technicians is closer to home: the eC4 probe was co-designed by Chris Graham, founder of BCF Ultrasound and Graham Innovations. Chris was taught how to service the OVI-Scan sheep probe by the original engineers from BCF Technology in Scotland (now IMV). He then spent 30 years as the original distributor and servicer of the OVI-Scan series, supplying thousands of machines across Australia and New Zealand.
In other words, this isn't a machine designed in an office with no idea what scanning actually entails. It's been shaped by someone who has serviced, supported and understood ovine scanning equipment longer than almost anyone in the industry.
What Makes the EVO III Different
The main upgrade is image quality — sharper, clearer pictures that hold up even on the genuinely tricky scans: full-wool sheep, wet and dry mud, full-gutted ewes, and late pregnancies where clarity usually suffers most. But the improvements go further than the picture on screen. Here's the feedback we've received from clients using the OVI-Scan 6:

For scanners who've built their whole season around the OVI-6, this isn't about replacing what's worked for you — it's about what happens when that same trusted job gets an upgrade. Same purpose-built reliability, sharper tools. Ongoing service support.
From the Field: What Scanners Are Actually Saying
Specs are one thing. Yards are another. New Zealand-based scanning technician Carl Williams has been putting the EVO III through its paces across the North Island this season — on shorn and full-wool sheep, in wet and dry mud, on full-gutted ewes and late pregnancies.
“I've been using it for most of this season across the North Island — on shorn and full-wool sheep, wet and dry mud, full-gutted and late pregnancies. Image quality and penetration have been fantastic, even on the difficult ones. Probe wear has been minimal.”
— Carl Williams, NZ Technician & Scanner
